Interns

The month of October was a full one for the interns. Half of them had family come out to participate in Family Days, serving alongside their kids here in Africa. Four interns ran Harrismith's famous Mountain Race and everyone spent a weekend in Durban enjoying a water park and a Leadership Conference.

The interns embraced a challenge to help raise money for the ministry. If they raise $2,000 by November 14, they can cut Niel's hair however they want—and he has to keep it that way for the interns' entire debriefing trip! If you want to get in on the action, you can make a donation toward the intern fundraiser. If you use Facebook, come and join the Fauxhawk for Funds, Mohawk for Money group!

Exchange Rate Helps You Double Your Donation!

In the past few months the exchange rate between the South African Rand and the Dollar has almost doubled. Basically that means that your support now goes twice as far than it did just a month or two ago. The rate is already starting to decline, but every dollar we receive right now is able to stretch much further than it has in years.

Would you pray about sending something extra this month? Our support has been critically low and any donation will make a huge difference.

Partnering with Pastors

Pastor Conference

Over 50 pastors attended our last Hand in Hand conference of the year. Pastor Leon De Haan, long time friend and partner of the ministry, flew in from Michigan to speak at the conference. Leon taught on vision and strategic planning. Many church leaders shared that it was the first time they really grasped the vision God has for their lives and churches.

“It blessed me a lot to learn how to plan and manage what God has given me. God strengthened my heart and empowered me." -Pastor Sekhosama

"I feel so blessed to have the privilege to be at this seminar. I now know God's vision for my life and that I need to rely on His guidance to fulfill that vision." -Pastor Motsoeneng

“God has showed me what my vision is and how to run the church properly." -Pastor Moloi

Zambian Youth Camp

  Camp

Two of our staff members, Dave and Kelly, recently got to head up to Zambia to help run a youth camp. They really enjoyed the opportunity to pour into kids’ lives with the teachings and activities they planned. Both of them were shocked to see the vast differences in an African culture only a 2-hour flight away. Despite the differences, God used Dave and Kelly to change the lives of a group of Zambian students.

"It made me realize just how different we have it here in Qwa Qwa. It took the ministry vision of having Africans teaching Africans to a whole new level." -Dave

Celebrating Ten Years

This year marks ten years of ministry for Thrive Africa. Niel and Alece wanted to honor the staff for their faithfulness and hard work, so they all headed to a nearby lake resort for a few days. Although the weather wasn't very cooperative, everyone had a fun time together. We thank God for all He's done already and everything that's still to come!
