Celebrating 10 Years

Celebrating 10 Years

Ten years ago, with empty pockets and a heart overflowing with vision, we pioneered Thrive Africa. Back in 1998, Niel began praying, “Send me to the poorest of the poor.” A few months later, he clearly heard God tell him it was time. Armed with a passion for training leaders and a heart for meeting needs, he left his hometown and his job as a youth pastor to follow God’s leading to the Harrismith/Qwa Qwa area three hours away. And just like that, our journey began…

God has done incredible things in the past decade.

Impacting Students

  Event

Leadership Summit, our AIDS prevention program, has kicked off for the new year. We held a special 4-hour promotional event for over 500 students at one of our partnering public schools. The day was filled with games, activities, an interactive lesson on finding your purpose, and a fun skit performed by our interns. The students were so excited to see Leadership Summit start back up again this year, and the teachers were just as happy for us to be there.

Listen to what some students had to say:

"I've learned that God has a purpose for me. I know I can be something great in life through Leadership Summit."

"I just want to thank the Leadership Summit leaders. From today I can say I truly know God. Thank you! You are the best, and you really care about us!"

Interns in Action

interns

Our interns give up a lot to spend a year serving with us in Africa. They say goodbye to friends and family and give up the conveniences of America. But they'd all agree that the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices. As they teach LaunchPad classes, love on orphan children, help train our coaches, and work in the offices, they know they are involved in changing a continent for eternity. It's all Kingdom business!

The interns wasted no time exploring the mission base; by their third week here, they'd scaled all three mountains on the property! They continue to grow closer as a group, and it's exciting to see how they'll become an even stronger team as the year progresses.

Growing Up

Our staff team has grown once again! Cassie and Aimee were both interns with us last year, and returned to join our staff full-time. Cassie is an assistant in Leadership Summit where she focuses on recruiting and training the national coaches who teach our abstinence classes. Aimee, who just arrived, will be serving as our financial manager as well as assisting in the development of Leadership Summit. Welcome to the family, ladies! We're glad you're here.
