Worth the Wait

AIDS Prevention

With winter break over and South African schools back in session, the new term of our AIDS prevention program recently kicked off. 4,000 students are attending Leadership Summit classes, and each one received their own full-color workbook.

Our curriculum is written, developed, and designed in-house: created in Africa, for Africa. We love seeing the students' eyes light up when we put the magazine-style book into their hands. They are eager and excited to page through it, and because we know God's Word does not return void, we know He is going to use these books to change their lives!

Our indigenous coaches are teaching Save Sex, dispelling the myths of “safe sex” that so many young people believe. They're teaching God's truths about the importance of abstinence until marriage and faithfulness to your spouse. As they instill in students the value they have in Christ and the freedom that comes from following God's ways, we believe we'll see this generation transformed!

LaunchPad Starts Again

Mission Teams

We're committed to discipleship and are constantly looking for more effective ways to train up young Godly leaders. Our team of staff and interns has worked hard to redesign our LaunchPad program to have maximum impact in student lives and in the community. Classes resumed this month, and already we have 230 students attending.

We're teaching in six villages this term, and four of our classes are using the new small group structure. The students really love the new format, and their participation in small groups has created a unique sense of ownership in the classes. We're looking forward to seeing how the additional leaders and small group discussions add to the students' growth in Christ.

"Jesus Healed Me!"

  Mission Teams

The surge of mission teams is winding down with the end of American summer. Joshua Expeditions brought a team of 12 from Emmanuel Bible Church (Chicago, IL). They focused on discipleship through relationship evangelism and children's club, and also spent time at the disabled children's center and the hospital.

We recently hosted teams from Kensington Community Church (Troy, MI) and Northview Community Church (Abbotsford, Canada). Kensington spent a week ministering through relationship evangelism and working on a construction project on our base. Northview shared the hope and love of Christ through house-to-house discipleship and children's club.

Here's a glimpse into what God's been doing through our mission teams:

“Four of us went and ministered to the men inside the hospital. We visited one man named Fanna who'd been in the hospital for three weeks because of his injured leg. He was barely able to move from his bed to the chair only inches away because the pain was so horrible. He was in tears from the pain when we walked into his room. Fanna was already seeking God, as he was reading a New Testament Bible. We prayed for him and told him about Jesus and what He had done for him. We prayed specifically for the healing of his leg and read some Scripture to encourage him. Forty-five minutes later, I saw Fanna walking outside in the parking lot with his crutches on his shoulder! When I approached him he smiled and said, ‘I'm so happy. I can't believe it, I have no pain!' His leg was healed. We rejoiced with him and before we left he said, ‘Now I can go home and tell everyone how Jesus healed me.'" -Mario Mammina, Joshua Expeditions
